Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 18) – ALA Promotions, one of the country’s finest boxing stables, bids farewell after 35 years of producing topnotch Filipino world champions.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Cebu-based boxing organization pointed out the COVID-19 pandemic and the non-renewal of franchise of longtime broadcast partner ABS-CBN affected the company’s future and overall direction.
The Antonio Aldeguer-owned boxing stable said they will release all their fighters for them to seek greener pastures in their careers.
ALA Promotions thanked their past and present fighters, trainers, and office staff and boxing fans for their support to the memorable events they produced throughout the years.
ALA produced some of the well-known Filipino world boxing titlists like Gerry Peñalosa, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista, AJ “Bazooka” Banal, and the longest reigning Filipino world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes who first worked as a utility man in the famed ALA Gym.
ALA Boxing is also known for producing the Pinoy Pride boxing series, which aired on ABS-CBN ever since its first staging in 2010. The group also partnered with international boxing promotion companies Top Rank and Golden Boy in organizing some boxing cards where their prized fighters are vying for world titles.
ALA is the only local boxing stable which staged boxing events in the United States and Dubai.
