The boxing bongo was wrongo as to Morongo. The SoCal casino has a Golden Boy show on property Friday night and Oscar de la Hoya, who has been getting more coverage on the Hollywood TV tabloid programs than publicity tramps Britney and Lindsay lately, is scheduled to appear there.
But now Boxingconfidential has learned that GBP and Sycuan Ringside Promotions, who together handle undefeated WBO junior lightweight champ Joan Guzman, are close to finishing a deal with the Borgata to bring the Nov. 17 HBO show starring Guzman and Top Rank’s Mexican brawler Humberto Soto to Atlantic City.
“We wouldn’t mind that,” Guzman manager Jose Nunez said from the Dominican Dandy’s Vegas training base at Floyd Mayweather’s personal gym. “We can certainly target the Dominican fan base a lot better in the Northeast than in California. Wherever they hold this fight, Guzman will be making a statement with his showing, trust me.”
