LAS VEGAS – Bob Arum was right when he said almost three weeks ago that the odds, which then placed Manny Pacquiao nearly a 4-1 favorite over Marco Antonio Barrera, would go down during fight week.
On Tuesday, at the official betting station of Mandalay Bay, the odds favoring the Filipino have considerably gone down.
From a high of +360 (meaning you have to bet $360 to win $100), the odds for Pacquiao winning the rematch scheduled this Saturday is down to a more manageable and more inviting +260.
Barrera was placed at +220 (meaning a $100 bet wins $220). Last August, just when the opening odds went out, the 33-year-old Mexican who is close to retirement was at +285.
?I?m sure the odds will go down during fight week, and when the Mexican money comes in,? said Arum a couple of weeks ago.
Big or small, however, Pacquiao?s trainer, Freddie Roach, said the odds will not affect their game plan.
?I really don?t care about the odds,? he said.
A scribe asked Barrera if it would be safe to place his money on him, and the Mexican replied, through an interpreter, ?Without a doubt.?
