I wasn?t even going to address this, but now that it?s basically been exposed as a fraud, which was quite obvious by the way, I have elected to talk about it. As most of you know, Oscar De La Hoya is the biggest name in boxing by a country mile, and because of that, he is a target for all sorts of things, and in this case, some unwarranted humiliation and perhaps even blackmail.
Several racy pictures of ?The Golden Boy? dressed as if he works at the Bunny Ranch appeared on line, and they were pretty bad. Anyone that uses photoshop can make images like this and that is what they were. I especially found it amusing that several television programs picked up the story and acted as if they didn?t know if they were legitimate or not. It was a sensationalistic story, but in one of the pictures, Oscar?s head is about a half size bigger than normal. They had to know that they were fake, but ratings and hits on the websites were more important than actually exposing this fraud and doing what was right.
The stripper that has gotten paid for this ?story? has apparently recanted much of it and denies any knowledge of just who took those pictures. She seems to want to take the 70 G?s and run, but you do not cross the Golden Boy and I think that we will see a repeat of that entire ?rat in a can? Pepsi Cola story, where two guys claimed to have found a rat in one of their cans of Pepsi and tried suing, only to be thrown in the slammer and sued by the gigantic corporation for lost revenue in the area of five million dollars. I?m assuming that this duo won?t be telling any more rat stories. Perhaps a few gerbil stories when they get out of prison.
In the end, De La Hoya will win this battle and perhaps the real drag queen poser will be revealed. I have some theories but I will keep them to myself. I don?t want to be dragged into it?no pun intended.
The Days of Jameel McCline?s Life
Initially, the man known as ?Big Time? was the opponent for the returning Vitali Klitschko, but an ?injury? has pulled out ?Dr. Iron Fist,? and left McCline in great shape, but without a fight. DaVarryl Williamson, who is ignored by the majority and by his promoter for the most part, was the replacement and now we had the great under card for the October 6th, Sam Peter ? Oleg Maskaev WBC Heavyweight Title Fight: McCline vs. Williamson, Kevin McBride vs. Andrew Golota, and RSR?s own Feature Writer and former 3-Time Champ, Jose Antonio Rivera coming back against the capable and dangerous former champ, Daniel Santos. You cannot beat this card with a stick.
Well, Oleg Maskaev did something and hurt himself and is now on the sidelines. Sam Peter, who has waited forever for a chance at a title, was going to have to wait a little more it seemed. He was forced to fight James Toney in two eliminations, even though he won the first and then there was the mess with Vitali Klitschko trying to step in and enforce his ?right? to reclaim his title. Maskaev wanted to fight Klitschko and vice versa, but the WBC did the right thing (amazingly) and gave Peter the shot.
Now, Jameel McCline gets a great opportunity, even though it doesn?t bode well for DaVarryl Williamson, who is now slated to fight Kali Meehan?a dangerous opponent. This is not a great replacement for the more notable McCline, who now gets another crack at the heavyweight title. He came close to winning it once in a spirited effort against former IBF Champ, Chris Byrd, and didn?t do so well in his other opportunities against Wladimir Klitschko and Nikolay Valuev?both TKO losses.
Sam Peter is now the ?Interim Champion,? and although strong, presents a very winnable fight for McCline. Peter looks devastating against C level competition and was able to beat a fat James Toney and come back and beat a fat and shot James Toney. There is no question that the ?Nigerian Nightmare? hits very hard and takes a very good shot. Wladimir Klitschko couldn?t stop him and he hit him cleanly and often, but he can be out-boxed and I think that the bigger McCline might just have the right style to beat him.
It?ll be ugly, but I see a grapple fest with McCline holding on for dear life at times and eventually confusing the frustrated Peter and maybe?just maybe, eking out the win on the cards. The heavyweight division is unpredictable and despite the fact that McCline has only won 7 out of his last 11 bouts, he is still a good heavyweight and cannot be discounted. This may just be fate intervening for McCline, unless he gets bounced out of this fight for some reason?considering the recent changes in opponents, it?s not out of the question.
First the Hospital, Then the Bank
The Pay Per View is nearly here with the ?Pacman? Manny Pacquiao facing off against Marco Antonio Barrera in a rematch. Rematches usually happen when there is a controversy in the initial meeting or it was so close or exciting that they just had to do it again. Pacquiao beat Barrera within an inch of his life in the last encounter, actually beating the Mexican legend into submission. Now, Pacquiao has improved 20% since the first meeting and Barrera is on the decline.
I have a feeling that this is a match of survival for Barrera, similar to the Roy Jones ? Antonio Tarver third fight, where going the distance was the goal from ?Superman.? Every single thing favors Pacquiao going into this fight. He is quicker, hits harder, is in the prime of his career, and does VERY well against guys like Barrera. If you stand in front of him, he?ll run you over.
This is what will probably be the final fight of Barrera?s career. He is going for that one last payday against the man that he didn?t want to fight until the end. It?s that old saying: ?Everybody has a price.? Well, the price was a big one and Marco jumped at it and is now ready for a beating.
I cannot see this fight going past five rounds. I think that we will see that swarming monster that we saw in the first fight and the third fight with Erik Morales charging his old foe. Barrera was a great fighter, but when you get older, your reflexes go and they have been going, which is not something that helps if you are facing a guy with pinpoint accuracy and power like Pacquiao. I think that we will see the Mexican superstar take a really deep breath before the bell rings for round one and may even request one more national anthem to buy some more time.
At least Barrera will have enough money to cover all of the hospital bills.
