MANNY Pacquiao has employed another “Mexican” as he prepares for his Oct. 6 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera in the US.
This time, it’s not another sparring partner—he has two of those already—but the soothing voice of Mexican singer Selena.
Rex Wakee Salud, who owns the gym Pacquiao trains on, recently installed a new sound system to play music while Pacquiao trains.
And among the songs who blared while Pacquiao, who can play the piano and the guitar and is also a recording star, trains were RNB, Pacquiao’s own new single and Selena songs.
And the music didn’t just serve to improve the ambience.
“I’m a music lover, every time I hear music, it seems my energy level is increased, “ Pacquiao told GMA’s Balitang Bisdak yesterday.
And that increased energy level doesn’t bode well for Raymund Beltran and David Rodela, Pacquiao’s Mexican sparring partners.
Rodela told Philboxing.com that when he got tagged during their sparring session, he felt he was getting hit by a baseball bat.
GMA also reported the other day that Rodela’s nose bled again after going three rounds with Pacquiao last Wednesday.
Pacquiao also went four rounds with Beltran as the Pinoy boxer gets closer to his targeted 130 to 150 rounds of sparring.
Pacquiao has already sparred 68 rounds with less than a month to go before he tangles with Barrera again.
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, told philboxing.com that his ward’s “timing was almost there and he threw some solid combinations as well as body shots.”
