WITH the belt vacated by stablemate Donnie Nietes, Milan “Milenyo” Melindo will get the crack for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific minimum-weight belt against a hard-punching Thai fighter Nuapayak Sakkririn on Oct. 10 at the Mindanao Polytechnic State College in Cagayan de Oro City.
The undefeated Melindo will make his first appearance in his hometown since he decided to turn to pro in September 2005.
Skilled and technically gifted, Milenyo will also rely on his punching prowess as shown by his 12-0 record including 3 KOs.
His latest fight was a technical decision win over Arnel Tadena, who decided to quit after the four rounds of futile punching.
Records
On the contrary, Nuapayak has fought eight times as a professional—losing one fight and having one draw. However, all his six wins came by knockouts, including a fifth round knockout over lesser known Filipino fighter Rolando Andante in April last year.
His latest fight was a fourth round knockout over Rungsavee Taweesub last May 18, which was a follow-up to his second round knockout win over Sanchai Kiatpilin in March.
Nuapayak’s lone defeat was a decision loss to Laitai Porthongym last February and a split draw to Nonthachai Tor Puonruampol in July last year.
Aside from the regional belt, Nuapayak is also aiming for Melindo’s ranking. The Pinoy currently holds the No.14 spot in the WBO 105-lb. division.
