Boxscore: NAIROBI, Kenya – March 29, 2019 – Reigning bantamweight female tittle holder Kenya’s Fatuma ‘Iron Fist’ Zarika has ruled out out a third rematch with Zambia’s Catherine Phiri.
This comes after the two bitter rivals faced each other on Sunday where Zarika won the bout on majority points in Nairobi to defend her World Boxing Council belt.
Speaking in the ring soon after the match, former WBC champion Catherine Phiri expressed optimism for another fight against Zarika. “Boxing is about facing each other and we can fight each other even twenty times”, she said.
The two have so far faced each other twice in their career. Zarika first defeated Phiri at Carnival in Nairobi in December 2017 to claim her title.
The last Sunday match between the two which was dubbed ‘Nairobi fight night’, was a 10 round re-match where Zarika kept her tittle online and successfully defended it.
The Kenyan Boxing super star Fatuma Zarika have now defended her WBC bantamweight three times.
She defended her title which she now refers to as her personal property for the second time back in September 2018 when she defeated Mexican Yamileth Mercado on majority points in Nairobi.
Zarika who has a a huge following in East Africa and always attracts mammoth crowd’s wherever she fights around was recently located her training camp to Liverpool England.
Her success in the ring has made her become the face of Kenyan Boxing which is not as vibrant as it used to be.
Zarika has already announced her intentions to hang up her gloves next year and concentrate on naturering up coming female boxer’s.
Until that happens Boxing fans will be waiting to find out who will be her next contender.
