At the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) WBC world welterweight champion Shawn Porter retained his belt by split decision over Yordenis Ugas. Judge Max de Luca had 115-113 and Steve Morrow 116-112 for the Akron, Ohio born Porter while Zachary Young had it 117-111 for Ugas from Cuba who is now residing in Miami, Florida.
Porter (30-2-1, 17KOs) successfully defended the belt he won from Danny Garcia last September and has now won four straight since his defeat to Keith Thurman on June 25, 2016. Ugas (23-4-0, 11KOs) suffered his first loss after winning eight straight since his loss to Amir Imam in 2014.
