Soon these will be the hottest tickets in town.
Tickets to the Manny Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera rematch, with a face value of $100 to $600, are being sold on the Internet for more than thrice its price.
An online ticketing station, as of yesterday, has put up a total of 242 tickets for the Oct. 6 fight for sale – the cheapest at $321 and the most expensive at $2,649.
At $2,649 or roughly P121,000, it’s probably worth a round-trip, first-class plane ticket from Manila to Las Vegas. Whoever buys this one will be seated on the sixth row of center ringside.
The tickets priced at $321 are good for the upper level. On face value, tickets to the Vegas fight dubbed “Will to Win” are priced $600, $400, $300, $200 and $100.
Clearly stated at the bottom of the screen of the online ticket station is that “Manny Pacquiao tickets may be sold for more than the price listed on the ticket.”
Tickets went out on sale last July 28. And by fight week, when tickets are already hard to find, the choice ringside seats can go for at least $2,500 in the black market.
Pacquiao spends millions of pesos for tickets being given away for family and friends, including big-name politicians and movie personalities.
Cris Aquino, the bubbly businessman and traditional flag-bearer in Pacquiao fights in the US, was in the US a few weeks ago, and has gotten hold of 15 tickets worth $600 each.
Aquino bought them for friends but said they’re not for free, unlike the Pacquiao jackets, t-shirts, bandanas and caps which normally he gives away to close friends during the fight.
“I could have bought 10 more and find no problem looking for buyers here. For most fans, it’s either you buy the $600 or the $100 tickets. They don’t want to spend $300 and be seated up there,” he said.
