Southpaw slugger Vic Darchinyan returns to the ring on October 20 against former Filipino flyweight champ Federico Catubay in Sydney.
Darchinyan (28-1, 22 KOs) lost his IBF flyweight title to another Filipino Nonto Donaire in Connecticut last month. He should have an easier time against the tiny (5ft 2in) Catubay (20-13-3) who was stopped in three rounds by Darchinyan’s stablemate Hussein Hussein in 2005. Australia’s leading boxing agent Angelo Hyder says the defeat against Donaire could be a blessing in disguise for Darchinyan.
“I think you will see an improved Vic from this fight,’’ Hyder said.
“He came back to earth with a thud and realises he can’t go out there and bowl everyone over.’’
