Adrien “The Problem” Broner has no problem when it comes to living up to his nickname, especially when it?s a legal problem.
The Cincinnati boxer grew up in the so-called “hood,” eventually picking up boxing at age six, turning pro, and winning all his first 27 fights.
He?s said in the past that he?s gotten into some trouble in his younger years, and last Sunday?s arrest over a failure to appear in court over traffic violations is just the latest in a history of his brush-ins with the law.
In 2007, he was charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault.
The following year, he faced a weapons case, a witness intimidation case, and a domestic violence case.
Broner took on robbery charges in 2010. In 2012, he faced assault charges, and more in 2016 in separate incidents. Some of it were caught on video.
Cryptic posts on his Instagram page had friends and fans worried that the boxer was suicidal.
But in the end, he was okay.
Earlier this year, he was accused of sexual assault.
And while he had served three days in jail for failure to appear in court in 2017, Broner, who’s never been stopped in a fight, has also managed to escape any serious convictions.
Last week?s arrest follows a lawsuit from Pristine Jewelers NY for failing to pay for $1.25 million worth of jewelry.
In a twist of irony, during last month?s press conference, Broner had used Manny Pacquiao?s past tax problems as a punchline.
During that press conference, the foul-mouthed Broner said he was hoping to be an inspiration to other youth with a similar background.
“I?m just here to show the younger talent, the younger guys in Cincinnati and around the world that come from poverty and the type of places I come from, just follow your dreams and work hard and you can make it,” he said.
And while his boxing and police records are well-documented, “The Problem” doesn?t open up often about his past.
Just as previous fights have pushed through despite legal issues, the January 19 fight against Pacquiao is expected to go on as planned.
