Earlier this week, Oscar De La Hoya said he wanted to be the next president.
Now Floyd Mayweather said he’s coming out of retirement. Again. To face Manny Pacquiao. Again.
The need for attention is strong within current and former champion boxers, and the timing surely isn’t coincidental with a huge fight in Las Vegas already set for tonight.
But, thanks to a well-timed Instagram post of meeting between the two past-their-prime fighters at a night club in Japan, we get to do the dance and see if Mayweather-Pacquiao II is just all talk or not.
So, anybody busy in December?
Mayweather hasn’t been in the ring since Aug. 2017, when he defeated UFC star Conor McGregor in a 10th-round TKO. That moved Mayweather’s career record to 50-0 and sent him back to retirement after another huge payday.
Pacquiao (60-7-2), meanwhile, is coming off a seventh-round knockout of Lucas Matthysse in July in Malaysia. It was the Filipino star’s first win by knockout since 2009.
The first fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao did a record 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. Mayweather’s reported earnings for the fight topped $200 million.
