CZAR Amonost is in the best shape of his life ever.
This is the assurance of his manager Michael Aldeguer who was about to board the plane bound for Las Vegas together with promoter Sammy Gello-ani when Sun.Star called yesterday.
According to the young Aldeguer, Amonsot has sparred close to 110 rounds already, most of it against Puerto Rican lightweight campaigner Ricky Quiles and another Puerto Rican fighter who frequently trains at the Wild Card Gym.
“Czar is in the best shape ever. I can guarantee that,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Amonsot will challenge Australian Michael Katsidis for the WBO interim lightweight championship on July 21 (July 22 RP time) at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada in the US.
Extensive
Amonsot and his trainer Edito Villamor together with Wild Card Gym head and celebrated trainer Freddie Roach are already at the Mandalay Bay since Monday and Aldeguer and Gello-ani will join them this evening.
“Amonsot’s preparation is very extensive and the boy is well motivated. Mayor (Dan) Lim just flew to Las Vegas to give Amonsot some morale support,” added Gello-ani.
Mayor Lim, the mayor of Tagbilaran City, Amonsot’s residence, flew to Las Vegas last Sunday for a special task—to give a pep talk and morale support on Amonsot.
Most of the Tagbilaranons have given up on the boxer following his heartbreaking defeat in front of his hometown folks in September last year. Amonsot was knocked out in 47 seconds of the first round in that fight.
Obligation
Acording to Gello-ani, Lim will stay until fight night because he has another obligation to attend to in Tagbilaran City.
“He still has to attend the Sandugo Festival which he is the chairman or the organizing committee. But the fact that he gave his precious time to give morale support to Czar is more than enough motivation for the boy,” Gello-ani said.
Amonsot, the WBO Asia Pacific lightweight champion will carry the hope of the Boholanos inside the ring. He parades a respectable 18-2-1, 12 KOs ring record, while Katsidis, a 2000 Sydney Olympian, is undefeated in 22 fights with 20 knockouts.
Amonsot is hoping to continue the success of Nonito Donaire and Florante Condes in world title fights.
After Amonsot, it will be be the chance of Rodel Mayol for a title fight. Mayol will face IBF lightweight champion Ulises Solis in the undercard of the Erik Morales vs. David Diaz match on Aug. 4.
