Froilan Saludar is raring to make history as he attempts to dethrone Sho Kimura of Japan as World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight king Friday night in Qingdao, China.
If Saludar (28-2 with 19 KOs) upsets Kimura (16-1-2 with nine KOs), he will not only bring pride and honor to the family by joining brother Vic as current world champs.
Taking the WBO 112-lb crown would also fulfill Froilan?s desire to be in the company of Jerwin Ancajas.
?This is one reason why Froilan wants to become a world champion because he feels that just about everyone during his batch have gone a long way,? said the fighter?s promoter Kenneth Rontal.
During the weigh-in Thursday afternoon, Saludar easily tipped in at 111.22 lbs while Kimura came in at 111.66 lbs.
The third man on the ring will be Chris Flores of Phoenix, Arizona, while the three judges are Surat Soikrachang (Thailand), Benoit Roussel (Canada) and Patricia Morse Jarman ( US).
The Philippines has been making waves the past few weeks with victories scored by Manny Pacquiao and Vic, who captured the WBO minimumweight title last July 13 in Kobe, Japan.
