DONNIE Nietes dropped down a spot in The Ring?s pound-for-pound rankings after Oleksadr Usyk unified all four major world titles in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) last weekend.
From No. 9, Nietes slid to the 10th spot, while Usyk jumped from No. 10 to fourth in the rankings. Pound-for-pound king Gennady Golovkin, No. 2 ranked Vasyl Lomachenko and Terence Crawford all kept their spots, while Mikey Garcia, Naoya Inoue, Sriksaket Sor Rungvisai, Eroll Spence Jr. and Sergey Kovalev all dropped a spot down from their previous ranks.
?I was expecting that when Usyk won. Donnie is just thankful, as well as ALA Promotions, to be in the pound-for-pound rankings as it is more than you can ask for. If Donnie wins his fourth division title and keeps on winning, it could bring him up again,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told SunStar Cebu.
Nietes? next fight is still under negotiation.
?We are still working on it as there were a lot of concerns involved. The date Aug. 18 has been moved to September in the Philippines, Middle East or US,? said Aldeguer.
Nietes is fighting fellow countryman Aston Palicte for the vacant WBO super flyweight belt. (EKA)
