Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista has no plans of leaving the Golden Boy stable.
Not in the next three years at least.
Michael Aldeguer, Bautista’s manager and president of the ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu, yesterday told philboxing.com that he recently met with Golden Boy vice president and international matchmaker Sampson “Picasso” Lewkowicz regarding the boxer’s future.
“I have committed to them and have accepted the offer that Boom Boom will be with GBP for three years because we trust the honesty and integrity of GBP.
They always look after the welfare of the boxers which is the priority of ALA Boxing Gym,” said Aldeguer.
It is actually a contract extension between Golden Boy and Bautista, who has fought six of his last nine fights in the United States, the first in Hawaii in 2005 and the last in Las Vegas last May.
Bautista, now fighting in the super-bantamweight class, is undefeated in 23 starts with 17 knockouts.
He is scheduled to face the veteran Daniel Ponce de Leon on Aug. 11 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.
De Leon, who defeated Gerry Pe?alosa earlier this year, will stake his WBO super-bantamweight crown.
“We cannot think of any other promoter because we know they are the best and they have great and honest people to work with. ALA Boxing will always be with GBP. They have done so much for us even just for a year of working with them. They have always been honest with us,” Aldeguer said.
“I personally trust their vision and principles, and I know that they are the best in doing things right the way it should be,” Aldeguer added.
