BOHOLANO Along Denoy made sure he exacted vengeance in the rematch to take home the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific light flyweight belt this time.
Denoy, a native of Candijay, scored a fifth-round technical knockout win to snatch the title from Kaichon Sor Voraphin in their scheduled 12-round fight in Photharam, Rachaburi Province, Thailand.
Denoy, nicknamed “Boholano Bulldog” pulled what his promoter Sammy Gello-ani earlier predicted, a victory.
However, the 23-year-old ALA Boy also went through a tough ordeal as the champion put him on the seat of his pants on the second round.
Revenge
Denoy though survived, and after a fearful third round, he started to find his marks and put down Kaichon twice on the fourth round.
The Thai puncher survived the onslaught, but the Filipino warrior sent the champion on the canvas two more times on the fifth. The referee stopped the carnage 20 seconds before the round ended.
Denoy now joins stablemates minimum weight Donnie “Aha” Nietes and fellow Boholano and lightweight campaigner Czar Amonsot as ALA Gym’s WBO Asia Pacific champions.
The victory improved Denoy’s record to 15-6-1, 8 KOs, while Kaichon dropped 35-11, 12 KOs.
Denoy avenged his technical decision loss to Kaichon two years ago and the two defeats the Thai handed to another ALA Boy Rocky Fuentes in 2004 and last year.
Eduardo Apa-ap though was not as lucky as the Davao City-based fighter suffered a technical knockout loss in the second round to the two-time world title challenger Sod Looknongyangtoy in their WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight championship.
Loss
In Australia, on the other hand, Filipino Nonoy Gonzales lost in the Pan-Asian Boxing Association (Paba) fight and also failed to acquire the WBO Asia Pacific Middleweight titles after he lost by unanimous decision to the undefeated Jamie Pittman at the Crowne Plaza, Terrigal in New South Wales.
Gonzales was knocked down three times, but managed to stay the full length of the fight against the young and hard punching Pittman.
At the end of the round, the scorecards read—judge Brian McMahon, 120-105; Des Bloyd, 120-101; and Mick Heafy, 120-105—all for Pittman.
Another Filipino, Jun Geraldino also suffered a defeat, a first-round knockout loss to Leonardo Zappavigna.
