Condes eyes WBC, WBA titles!

Newly-crowned International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight king Florante Condes doesn’t only want to be known simply as a world champion. He wants to be the best of the best. “I want to become an undisputed world champion,” Condes told a handful of Filipino scribes on Friday in Manila. Condes’ manager Aljoe Jaro said that the 5-2 banger wants to annex the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBA) crowns. Japan-based Thai Eagle Kyoiwa is the WBC titlist, while Yutaka Niida is the WBA ruler. Condes is one of only two Filipino world champions at the moment. The other is Nonito Donaire, a California-based fly who took the IBF 112-lb throne less than 12 hours after Condes’ victory in Jakarta. However, Condes’ immediate future looks headed for a title defense in Jakarta, Manila or Las Vegas. Manny Pacquiao has promised Condes that he will convince Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions to include Condes in the undercard of his Oct. 6 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas. If it doesn’t work, Jaro said Manila will stage Condes’ bout in partnership with a leading TV blocktimer and a top promoter.
