Reacting to a report indicating that IBF minimumweight champion Muhammad Rachman had sent a sparmate to a hospital in Indonesia, Filipino challenger Florante Condes immediately issued a statement, saying that Rachman ‘should not run when they face off.’
Condes will challenge Rachman on July 7 for the latter’s title at the Indoor Tennis Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Sila ang ma-ospital pag tinamaan,” (He’s going to the hospital once he gets hit), said Condes’ manager Aljoe Jaro when asked for comment.
Rachman had reportedly sent sparmate Boy Suga to a hospital after absorbing a shot to the jaw in their sparring session in Blitar City, Indonesia, according to Fightnews.
“Condes was laughing so hard when he heard of that news. He did not even brag when three sparmates refused to finish their sessions last Friday. Condes said if Rachman is man enough, he should not run,” Jaro stated.
Condes is currently wrapping up training, and will spar for the last time on Friday.
Team Condes flies to Jakarta on July 2. Joining him in the trip are his manager Jaro, trainer George Sol and lawyer Joaquin Mendoza.
Also set to fly to Jakarta from Las Vegas are co-manager Dante Ortiz, ex-WBA junior welter titlist Morris East, promoter Bobby Bostick, and lawyer Cesar Trevino.
American Wayne Hedgepeth has been tasked to referee the Condes-Rachman battle. Hedgepeth had previously worked the Carlos Baldomir-Arturo Gatti WBC welterweight showdown.
