Nor does anyone ever expect Conor McGregor to one day find work after his UFC career with the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. But when it comes to the 29-year old Irishman who is almost as known for his out-of-cage antics as his in-cage accomplishments yesterday’s hand dolly shotput into a UFC bus just might spell the end of his storied and controversial career.
As a result of McGregor’s actions three matches have been removed from Saturday’s UFC pay-per-view event including McGregor’s buddy Artem Lobov. Lobov’s, who was scheduled to fight Alex Caceres, has been called off for his participation in the incident. In addition, the Lightweight bout between Michael Chiesa and Anthony Pettis due to Chiesa receiving facial lacerations when seated inside the bus from flying glass. Flyweight Ray Borg also had to withdraw from his fight with Brandon Moreno due to multiple corneal abrasions also resulting from flying glass due to the hand dolly’s impact with the bus window.
McGregor throwing the hand dolly: New York police have charged McGregor with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief. Also charged was Dublin MMA fighter Cian Cowley who flew across the pond with McGregor making his USA debut winning himself NYPD assault and criminal mischief charges for his participation.
It is Lobov who is at the center of the controversy after the fighter jawed with Russian-born fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov in a New York City hotel lobby Wednesday. This incident seen below seemingly being the catalyst for Big Mac to board his private jet from Dublin to confront Nurmagomedov. Apparently two of the roughly 30 ‘All-Beef Paddies’ accompanying him on the trip were given media credentials allowing them to help the ‘Big Mac Attack’ on Nurmagomedov.
Lobov – Nurmagomedov hotel confrontation. In an interview on ESPN’s Get Up! Friday morning, UFC president Dana White stated, “In the history of the UFC, this is definitely the worst thing ever that’s happened”. Later adding “Conor is in a lot of trouble.”
Since his $100 million dollar bout with Mayweather last August 26, McGregor’s last big splash in the news came on November 10, 2017, during the Charlie Ward v. John Redmond bout. It was during that fight McGregor ran a victory lap around the cage ultimately straddling the apron celebrating his buddy’s Ward’s apparent victory ‘before’ it was officially declared. When attempted to be stopped by referee Marc Goddard, McGregor slapped Goddard’s face later stating “Did you see your man trying to grab me and I gave him a clatter in the face”. The fight was officially stopped, not by the damage inflicted by Ward, but by due to McGregor’s antics.
McGregor is scheduled to appear in for arraignment in New York City court later today.
