Super bantamweight contender Apol Suico of RWS Stable aims to bounce back from the first defeat of his career when he takes on veteran slugger Jerry Manganip of Butuan City in a non-title bout scheduled for 10 rounds headlining an explosive Masbate card billed as “Paraksian San Kiray sa Khokak” on June 23 at the Khokak Beach Resort in Cataingan, Masbate.
Apol, nephew of reigning OPBF lightweight champion Randy “Kumong Bato” Suico, saw his previously unbeaten nine-fight win streak came to a bitter end when he was stopped in the second round by former Olympian Danilo Lerio last March 3 at the Rajah Sulaiman Park in Manila.
That tarnished Suico’s once impressive record that is dotted with six knockouts including a smashing one-round stoppage of Jun Pader prior to his loss to Lerio.
In the supporting main event of the slambang card presented by Masbate Governor Olga Kho, Rep. Tony Kho and well-known Cebuano promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud of RWS Promotions International, Apol’s stablemate Roel Laguna will clash with Rico Genon of Cagayan de Oro City in another 10-rounder bout under the flyweight division.
Laguna is coming off three successive wins capped by an eight-round TKO of Mervin Batolina last March 3 in Manila.
The rest of the card pits Janrey Canete vs. Nelson Llanos, Darell Pucdol vs. Romnick Rapista, RH George vs. Jun Pangandoyon.
Prior to the pro action, six exciting amateur bouts have been lined up featuring Masbate’s homegrown talents against some of Cebu’s top pugilists.
