In what will be a very explosive match-up with Fight of the Year credentials, Rocky Fuentes of ALA Boxing Gym and Benedict Suico of the Wakee Salud Stable will duke it out in a 12-round battle on July 7 for the vacant RP flyweight title.
The title remained vacant after no. 1 ranked Danilo Lerio drew with no. 6 Louie Bantigue last June 1, thus no. 2 Fuentes and no. 3 Suico will now get the chance.
The Fuentes-Suico bout will just be one of the explosive undercard bouts in the huge card put up by promoter Sammy Gello-ani featuring the WBO Asia Pacific title defense of Czar Amonsot and Korean Yung Song Kim for the junior welter crown.
Meawhile, Jerope Mercado of the Wakee Salud Stable will see action on the undercard of the WBA featherweight defense of Chris John against Japanese Zaiki Takemoto on August 19 in Rokko Island, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan.
According to Mercado’s trainer Juanito Ablaca, his ward will be facing a Japanese opponent in the card.
The Cagayan de Oro-raised Mercado is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Japan’s Takuto Nanba last June 3 also in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan where he is currently based.
Mercado showed brilliance in defeating Nanba via scores of 76-74 from all three judges.
The main event will feature Indonesia’s WBA featherweight champion Chris John making his seventh title defense against Zaiki Takemoto, who hails from Kobe.
