Manny Pacquiao has dropped his plans to take up law.
Instead, the flamboyant boxer, who lost his bid for a congressional seat in the May 14 elections, will take up a business-related course so he can keep track of his businesses on and off the ring.
During the campaign period, Pacquiao bared his plan to get a degree in political science for a better understanding of the laws governing the country – a major component of being a public official.
But since he was unfortunate in his bid, Pacquiao has decided to shift gears.
“Business course na lang. I will let my children take up law instead,” Pacquiao said over the radio yesterday.
“This is better so I can take care of my businesses,” said Pacquiao, who has put up his own Manny Pacquiao Promotions (MPP).
The MPP is not all about boxing as it also deals with Pacquiao’s numerous endorsement contracts, an apparel business and his fledgling recording career.
Pacquiao, a former bakery and construction worker who became a multi-millionaire through boxing, has three children with wife Jinkee – five-year-olds Michael and Emmanuel, and eight-month-old Princess.
Pacquiao is now in Manila to enroll his two sons at the Brent International School in Pasig.
A few weeks ago, Pacquiao and his family, except for the baby girl, were in the US for a needed break.
A trip to Disneyland was on top of the recent agenda.
To prepare for his studies, Pacquiao said he will hire a private tutor to help him polish his English.
Pacquiao reportedly went to the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University the other day for an entrance exam that will help him determine the course he is to take.
For the meantime, however, forget about Pacquiao, the lawyer.
