Canelo Alvarez appears to be doing his best not to let the fall-out from his failed drugs test disrupt preparations for his upcoming rematch with Gennady Golovkin.
The two fighters are due to meet for the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles in another mega-fight in Las Vegas on May 5.
But the match-up is in doubt after Canelo tested positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol earlier this month.
The Mexican sensation, who earned a controversial draw against Golovkin when they first met back in September, has blamed the failed test on contaminated meat he ate in Mexico.
Canelo has passed two subsequent drugs test and his training camp in full swing ahead of the May 5 showdown.
On Wednesday morning, his promoters Golden Boy uploaded a video of the Mexican punching an aqua bag and practising his defensive work with trainer Eddy Reynoso.
Following his failed drugs test, Canelo is under investigation by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. And GGG’s trainer Abel Sanchez has called on the boxing authorities not to ignore the issue of doping.
‘I don’t think it should be just swept under the rug. That’s not good for our sport. That’s not good for the future of our sport,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘I think that he needs to either be cleared, or be suspended and fined immensely, but if he’s not, then I think we present future problems for us in this game.’
On Golovkin’s frame of mind, he added: ‘He was a little upset also he was a little disappointed that his team wasn’t more diligent about the food.’
