JAMIE CONLAN came up short in his world title bid as he was beaten by Jerwin Ancajas in Belfast tonight.
The Belfast native was battling for the IBF World Super Flyweight title in his hometown but was beaten in a sixth round stoppage.
Conlan was knocked down three times in the first four rounds but showed incredible resilience to keep answering the challenge from his Filipino opponent.
However after he was knocked down again in the sixth the referee intervened to call a stop to the fight.
Ancajas showed his class from the start knocking Conlan down in the first round after a delayed reaction to a body shot.
Conlan then suffered a nasty cut above his left eye in the second before being knocked down a second time in the third round.

It looked really bad for the challenger as Ancajas wore him down with body shots before sending him to the canvas for a third time in the fourth round.
Conlan was able to answer that and received a small boost when Ancajas was docked a point for a second low shot in the fifth.
However once he knocked Conlan down for the fourth time in round six the referee put a stop to the action.
Earlier in the night Paddy Barnes was crowned WBO inter-continental flyweight champion after his win over Eliecer Quezada.

Barnes secured the win with a body shot in the sixth round in a contest he looked in control of from the start.
The win makes it five from five since his switch to the pro ranks and brings him a huge step closer to a world title fight.
