Jaro Awaits For Rubillar-Nakajima Winner

Philippine junior flyweight champion and OPBF no. 1 Sonny Boy Jaro will bide his time as he awaits for the result of the Juanito Rubillar-Ken Nakajima OPBF championship showdown on June 24 and then challenge the winner.

Rubillar versus Nakajima is slated to be held at the Nishinari Ward Gym in Osaka, Japan.

The Filipino Rubillar is making this choice defense of his title, and according to Aljoe Jaro, who manages Sonny Boy, his ward will be up next for the winner in a mandatory title match.

“Maybe in August or September it will be our turn,” Jaro said today from his base in Manila, where he is busy preparing his other ward Florante Condes for his upcoming title challenge against IBF kingpin Muhammad Rachman.

Rubillar will be making the initial defense of the OPBF title he won with an impressive seventh-round technical knockout over Indonesia’s Irfan Ogah last October 13 in Cavite. Ogah had lost on an 8th round TKO to the hugely-popular Koki Kameda of Japan only last week.

The Silay City-raised Jaro has been holding the RP title since 2004, and has successfully defended it four times, earning for him the OPBF top ranking.
