Humberto Soto Tackles Questions From Boxing Confidential’s Readers

On Saturday night on the under card of Miguel Cotto-Zab Judah, Mexico’s Humberto Soto battles Filipino Bobby Pacquiao in a super featherweight showdown. The action will be carried on HBO Pay Per View and promoted by Top Rank.

Days away from his fight, which could potentially catapult Soto to a bout with the distinguished names at super featherweight, he took some time to answer e-mails from Boxing Confidential’s fans.

Humberto,

We know that Bobby Pacquiao likes to hit below the belt. What will you do on Saturday night to prevent that from happening?

Dianne – Philippines

Humberto’s Response: Dianne, I am not going to give him the chance to do anything like that on Saturday. I am going to attack him very aggressively from the sound of the opening bell. If he delivers low blows, the referee is in charge to penalize him if he starts fighting dirty or scoring fouls.

Humberto,

If you had to pick between Manny Pacquiao, Edwin Valero, Joan Guzman, Juan Manuel Marquez, or Marco Antonio Barrera, which fighter would you like to face the most?

Danny – Los Angeles, California

Humberto’s Response: I will fight with the first one to step to the plate. Not one of them seems interested in fighting me. I am standing here ready for the first the first one who steps up and gives me the opportunity.

Humberto,

What was your inspiration to become a boxer? Who was your idol?

Tomas – Miami, Florida

Humberto’s Response: I have been a boxer since I was a child. My grandfather was the president of amateur boxing and he would take me to the amateur fights. One meet there was a kid missing and I was eight years old, so I got up to the ring and fought. Since that day, I liked boxing.

I do not have an idol in boxing but I really liked how Julio Cesar Chavez used to fight.

Humberto,

Would you give Rocky Juarez a rematch?

Totico – Tampa, Florida

Humberto’s Response: Rocky Juarez can have a rematch whenever he likes. Honestly, I do not think he is interested in a rematch.

Humberto,

Who do you think is the pound for pound best fighter in boxing today?

Ricky – Sacramento, California

Humberto’s Response: To be completely honest, I think Floyd Mayweather Junior is the best boxer pound for pound in the world. Even though, personally, I do not like the defensive style he presents in most of his fights.
