VEGAS DIARY – PART FOUR

I felt a bit like an intruder at a Chippendales show on Friday afternoon. After all, when was the last time you stood in the middle of a frenzied 7,000 crowd screaming at a couple of blokes in their pants? Welcome to the weigh-in for De La Hoya v Mayweather.

I suppose for an event as hyped as this they had to have a weigh-in to match, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Leaving the media center at the MGM Grand on Friday afternoon I was expecting to find a few people strolling to the Grand Garden Arena for the proceedings – after all it was free too enter for the public so I thought a small crowd would turn up. How wrong can you be.

As soon as I opened the door I was met by carnage. I walked slap bang into a throng of people trying to get past a couple of hard-pressed security guards. They were fighting a losing battle. They told me the arena was already full to capacity with 7,000 people. A Las Vegas record for the weigh-in.
