The World Awaits the showdown Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as the Pretty Boy?Floyd Mayweather Jr.?squares off against the Golden Boy?Oscar De La Hoya. The boxing writers have spoken and of the 31 writers polled, 21 feel that Mayweather will be the victor in the mega fight. Only eight of the 31 members of the media feel that the bout will end in a knockout..
Veteran boxing scribe Tim Smith of the New York Daily News feels that Mayweather will capture the title. “Mayweather is faster and I think his speed is the major difference between him and De La Hoya. It is also the determining factor in the match. That makes Mayweather harder to hit. I don’t think Mayweather has the power to stop De La Hoya, but he has the boxing ability to win a decision.”
George Willis of the New York Post likes Mayweather and expresses his opinion in three words– “Younger, faster, hungrier.”
USA Today’s boxing columnist Chuck Johnson also likes Mayweather.
