After stopping Felix Diaz last weekend, surging WBO/WBC Super Lightweight Champion Terence Crawford might be on a collision course with fight legend and WBO Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao.
… But Pacquiao vs Crawford might not be next.
Enter Julius Indongo (22-0, 11 KOs).
?The guy I?d like to match him [Terence Crawford] with is the guy who has the other two titles [Indongo], so it would be a nice fight for four belts on the line,? Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com after the Diaz fight.
?So we?ll see. And then, if he wins that I would go to Manny and try to make that fight. It?s the biggest fight for Manny.?
Is Crawford vs Indongo on tap?
Indongo, of course, is Crawford’s lesser-known peer at super lightweight division, owning the division’s IBF and WBA versions of the title.
A lightweight participant at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, the 34 year old southpaw hails from Namibia and had a big year in 2016 (3-0, 3KO).
Ranked by BoxRec as the division’s No. 3 fighter (behind Crawford and Viktor Postol), he is fresh off a unanimous decision verdict win over Ricky Burns last month.
The Burns fight followed his December shocker where he knocked out red hot Eduard Troyanovsky (then 25-0) in just 40 seconds.
Julius’s first punch landed was a perfectly timed power left hook to the jaw that sent Troyanovsky down and out. Fighting in his native Russia, Troyanovsky entered the bout ranked No. 2 in the division by BoxRec.
Perhaps Indongo has something waiting for Mr. Crawford?
Can Indongo stop the Crawford surge? Should the fight happen next, will the Namibian even present a test for Terence?
