Las Vegas – The country’s next major boxing spectacle on television will depend on the outcome of this Saturday’s (Sunday in the Philippines) ?The World Awaits? event at the MGM Grand, as two unbeaten Filipinos strut their wares while the world will be watching.
The country’s top promoter, Sammy ?Don King? Gello-ani, informed in an interview here upon arrival that unbeaten Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista and AJ ?Bazooka? Banal are now penciled for bigger fights if they win on May 5.
According to Gello-ani, giant television network ABS-CBN has already expressed interest in covering the ?World Cup? of boxing slated August 25 or September 1.
The card, added Gello-ani, will feature Mexican world champions against Filipino challengers, where four or five titles will be put at stake.
?ABS-CBN and our group have already started exploratory talks on the holding of the World Cup. We haven’t discussed the figures yet. But everything will depend on the outcome of this May 5 event,? he said.
Gello-ani also divulged that the television giant will also cover the May 26 Golden Boy Promotions card in Anaheim, California featuring the WBO lightweight battle between Joan Guzman and Australian Michael Katsidis. The card also boasts of Filipino Bert Batawang who will tangle with Mexican Francisco Rosas in a 12-round junior flyweight eliminator.
Batawang (50-6, 34 KO’s) will go up against Rosas (19-5-1, 12 KO’s) in an IBF-sanctioned eliminator between two heavy bangers.
?We have until May 4 to finalize negotiations on this matter. But I think ABS will get to air the May 26 event,? Gello-ani said.
