Opponents take great pains to impugn Oscar De La Hoya. They insult his manhood, his success, his family, his heritage.
Ricardo Mayorga attacked Golden Boy mercilessly before their May 6, 2006 WBC super welterweight bout in Las Vegas. He called De La Hoya an old lady and a clown. He lobbed personal insults at De La Hoya’s wife, Puerto Rican singing star Millie Corretjer.
“He got under my skin,” De La Hoya admitted.
But when fight time came, De La Hoya was calm at the weigh-in, then he delivered a sixth-round TKO of Mayorga.
