Oscar De La Hoya says he’s the undisputed star attraction for Saturday night’s megafight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather is the sport’s pound-for-pound king in the eyes of boxing purists ahead of this shuddering collision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
But they don’t call Oscar the ‘Golden Boy’ for nothing, and De La Hoya says he’s the man who’ll put most bums on seats this weekend.
In a claim that’s sure to infuriate his opponent, he says Mayweather only brings to the table a paltry 30 per cent of the star quality involved.
“Obviously I think Dana White said: ‘Can Mayweather put 2,000 people in an arena? I don’t think he can. It’s all De La Hoya’. You need to have a big opponent to make a great event. I would to say maybe it’s a 70-30 split. I’m contributing 70 per cent and he’s contributing 30 per cent.”
If that’s not enough to make his opponent fume, De La Hoya revealed that he’s the man who will make sure Floyd Mayweather Sr attends Saturday night’s bout.
