A 10-year-old boy was rushed to hospital in General Santos City Monday after he was shot and wounded by a bodyguard of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, ABS-CBN News learned.
Doctors at the St. Elizabeth Hospital said the boy sustained a gunshot wound on the left palm near his pinky and another on his right hand.
Authorities said the boy is now out of danger.
Doctors declined to issue additional statements regarding the condition of the boy.
The report said the shooting took place at 2 p.m.
Pacquaio’s bodyguards carry firearms despite a nationwide poll gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections.
The boxer applied for and was granted exemption by COMELEC for permits to carry firearms outside of residence.
Pacquiao’s camp cited threats to the boxer and his family in applying for gun ban exemptions.
Pacquiao is running for congressman of South Cotabato’s first district, which included General Santos.
