Paras-Haya to highlight Engkwentro fight card

THOUGH the spotlight this Saturday night is all on the Saludar brothers, the title fight between 18-year-old unbeaten prospect Vince Paras and tough Jimboy Haya could be the best fight in the card.

?The fight of Haya and Paras will be very good. It will be a slugfest,? Haya?s trainer Christopher ?Pingping? Tepora told SunStar Cebu.

Haya and Paras are fighting for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific Youth light flyweight belt in one of the featured fights of ?Engkwentro Diha Sa Mandaue: Visayas vs. Mindanao? at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

The 22-year-old Haya is a hard-hitter who is also as tough as nails. After a unanimous decision loss to former world title challenger Vic Saludar (14-2, 9 KOs), who is featured in the main event against promising youngster Toto Landero (8-1-2, 2 KOs), Haya has bounced back with a unanimous verdict over Ken Jordan last March.

Paras, from Gen. Santos City, is an unbeaten knockout artist. His last fight was a first-round knockout of Michael Camelion last March.

Paras hasn?t faced an opponent of Haya?s caliber, which makes this his stiffest test.

Haya, ranked No. 39 in the World Boxing Council (WBC), is 10-3-2 with six knockouts, while Paras is 10-0 with nine knockouts.
