DOLFO del Rosario is like Manny Pacquiao fighting an undefeated Jorge Solis in his comeback bid against Yayong Gementiza.
Jorge Solis before his submission to Pacman was undefeated as Gelacio Gementiza is in his political career.
Pacquiao has already tested defeats early in his professional boxing career as RDR was in his first try during the Con-Con days of Davao del Norte politics.
This time Manny Pacquiao and RDR take the role as serious contenders against the incumbents Darlene Antonio and YG respectively.
Many believe that Pacquiao is more of a serious campaigner in politics than as a world-class boxer. One of them is his surrogate trainer Justine Fortune.
His fight against Jorge Solis according to Fortune was not as fortunate and serves as a bitter lesson for the Pambansang Kamao in taking lightly his fight against highly rated Mexican boxers.
It was to his credit that Jorge Solis did his training as though his whole life and career depended on it.
Manny Pacquiao it seems to many lacks the focus of a champion boxer staking his name, belt, and national honor into it.
That could be the reason why Solis had this taunting remark even after being downed twice in the canvass saying that his wife hits harder than Manny Pacquiao. But I still believe that what hit Solis was his wife’s fist with a “dos por dos” on hand.
Seriously, though, Pacquiao has been doing this-and-that during pre-fight training and has always been a headache even to his Wild Card handlers.
To be in top shape, Pacquiao has to train eight weeks as far as Fortune is concerned. But Pacquiao himself has a bit of an unorthodox way of defying the training rigors once calling it as over-extended pre-fight punishment of the body that may result in his opponent’s undue advantage.
Still Fortune is not satisfied with Manny’s latest fight saying the Filipino champ should take what he described as a bitter lesson in his fight with Solis to heart and carry it to his future fights.
If Manny wins two ways, boxing today and a congressional seat tomorrow, that would be a doubleheader.
That would be world history in the making with this introduction in his next fight – “From the red corner, the reigning WBC international super featherweight champion and Congressman of the Republic of the Philippines Maaaannny Paccqqquiao!!!”
By the way, the difference between Manny Pacquiao and Dolfo del Rosario is that S for Manny is for Sports and public service. S for RDR in the newness of his platform of government is Spirituality, more prayers and good governance.
I’m giving Pacquiao’s latest fight an S for Six in terms of his performance. Wild Card Beat: Five in the scale of 1 to 10. – Freddie Roach
