PROMISING prospect Joey Canoy?s blinding speed and improving power will be his key to victory over former world champion Hekkie Budler in their International Boxing Organization (IBO) light flyweight title bout on Feb. 4 at the Emperor?s Palace in Gauteng, South Africa.

With a little over a month until the fight, Flores is confident that his young ward will give Budler, the ex-World Boxing Association (WBA) mini-flyweight champ, a run for his money or even score a huge upset.
?He has had a long preparation. He started last November. He has also had a lot of sparring in the gym,? said Flores. ?He has no problem with his conditioning. His movement is very natural.?
Canoy has been sparring with Renoel Pael, Elias Joaquino, Melmark Dignos, Gerpaul Valero and Fil-Aussie ?Kid? Dino Rafaeles at the RWS Gym.
The 23-year-old Canoy is coming of a confidence-boosting sixth round technical knockout win over fellow up-and-comer Toto Landero and fourth round stoppage win over journeyman Fabio Marfa after starting out the year on the wrong foot with a stoppage loss to Jessie Espinas.
