LAS VEGAS ? Freddie Roach believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. is interested in a rematch with Manny Pacquiao that he thinks the retired boxer will be watching the Filipino?s fight with Jessie Vargas on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
There are reports that Mayweather is back in the gym now and has even done some sparring, leading Roach to speculate that a comeback is inevitable.
?It means he (Mayweather) may be a little bit bored and may want to come back also,? Pacquiao?s longtime trainer told reporters in a roundtable discussion at Wynn Las Vegas on Thursday (Friday in Manila).
?I think he wants a rematch. I want a rematch. I know Manny can do better. Manny thought he won the fight,? he added.
It shouldn?t be a surprise if Mayweather watches ? or even attends ? the Pacquiao-Vargas welterweight title fight live, since he did the same when Pacquiao fought Timothy Bradley last April.
That time, Mayweather was seen roaming around the MGM Grand shortly after the bout, and according to reports, ordered the fight on pay-per-view. Sportshub ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1
Roach thinks that the desire for a rematch is there for Mayweather, who retired after fighting Andre Berto in September last year, about three months after defeating Pacquiao in boxing?s richest fight ever.
?I?m sure Mayweather?s gonna be watching the fight. Because he?s back at the gym now, that (rematch with Pacquiao) is definitely possible,? said Roach.
