Was it temperament? Was it drugs? It could be any of a thousand things that pushed Fury over the edge?
People deal with pressure in different ways. Sometimes they succumb. Sometimes they fight back.
The October 29 fight at between reigning and defending WBA heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Kltschko has been postponed a third time.
It wasn?t an injury this time. Fury?s body didn?t let him down.
His brain did.
A statement from Team Fury reads:
It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce that the World Heavyweight Championship rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko, scheduled to take place on the 29th October 2016 at the Manchester Arena, will not be going ahead. Tyson has, this week, been declared medically unfit to fight.
Medical specialists have advised that the condition is too severe to allow him to participate in the rematch and that he will require treatment before going back into the ring. Tyson will now immediately undergo the treatment he needs to make a full recovery.
We and Tyson wish to express our sincerest apologies to all those concerned with the event and all the boxing fans who had been looking forward to the rematch. Tyson is understandably devastated by the development.
We will be making a further statement in due course. Until then, we ask that Tyson and his family be given the privacy and the space he needs to recover during this difficult time.
That?s something of a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. ?Medically unfit? can mean many things. Was it temperament? Was it drugs? It could be any of a thousand things that pushed Fury over the edge. He was a train wreck waiting to happen. Even medical school dropouts could see it coming a mile away.
Where we go from here is anyone?s guess. There?s only so much disappointment one can take. Is there any desire, forget gusto, about scheduling the fight a fourth time?
Hopefully Fury recovers from whatever ails him and he returns to boxing with his facilities intact.
Meanwhile, in another part of town, Wladimir Klitschko won?t be fighting anyone named Tyson Fury.
