Jessie Vargas is taking to the skies to prepare for his defense of the world welterweight crown against Sen. Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas.
Less than two months before putting the World Boxing Organization 147-lb title, the 27-year-old Vargas has been making regular trips to the 11,900-feet Mount Charleston near Las Vegas.
?There is no way I will let this go. I will be victorious by any means necessary,? said Vargas in his social media account of the scheduled 12-round battle with the Filipino legend at the Thomas and Mack Center.
High-altitude training benefits fighters building on stamina and Vargas knows that he will need plenty of that when he rumbles with the soon-to-be-38-year-old Pacquiao.
Although Pacquiao, an eight-division champion, is no longer the same fighter who dominated almost everyone, he remains a livewire foe for a youngster like Vargas.
In fact, Pacquiao put on a show of force in his last fight against Tim Bradley last April just before he announced his short-lived retirement.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, is also in the thick of training in a gym near the Philippine Senate building.
Pacquiao in fact showed up for training hours after arriving in Manila from a whirlwind promotionalin tour in the US.
