LOS ANGELES — A week before fight night, it may not be wise to put all your money on Manny Pacquiao.
We mean, a cash bet on Pacquiao will win only little.
The betting odds in San Antonio, Texas, remained in the Filipino superstar’s favor on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) — minus 850 for Pacquaio, plus 550 for Solis.
In layman’s terms, it means that a bet of $850 on Pacquaio will win only $100 while a $100 bet for Solis will yield $550.
Meanwhile, Top Rank top honcho Bob Arum said Pacquiao’s arrival in San Antonio Sunday is expected to bolster the already brisk ticket sales for the “Blaze of Glory” fight card on April 14.
Arum even believes that Top Rank’s biggest PPV (pay per view) undertaking thus far in Texas, headlined by Pacquiao’s 12-round clash with Mexican Jorge Solis, could surpass the gate receipts of the Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera fight in November 2003.
Pacquiao’s popularity, the huge presence of Mexicans in Texas, and the strong appeal of super flyweight Jorge Arce, Fil-Am Brian Viloria and welterweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the undercard are expected to draw in the crowds.
Arum expects at least 95 percent of tickets to be sold out on Pacquiao’s arrival and during his stay at the Radisson Hotel.
To drum up interest in the fight, Top Rank has scheduled Pacquiao’s first public workout on Monday and a courtesy call on the city mayor of San Antonio on Tuesday.
A press conference has been calendared for Wednesday and an interview via satellite with the card’s featured boxers has been set for Thursday before the official weigh-in on Friday.
