De La Hoya says he will take risks against Mayweather
Facing a Floyd Mayweather Jr who is moving up to junior middleweight for the first time, the ?Golden Boy? Oscar De La Hoya says he is prepared to take risks to be aggressive to ensure victory in their ?The World Awaits? boxing super fight on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on HBO Pay-Per-View.
?The name of the game is hit, not get hit. But I?ll take some risks,? he said. ?I?ll be in tremendous shape where I?ll have no problems taking those risks.?
While many people are pointing at 30 year-old Mayweather?s speed as to one of the major reasons he will win, De La Hoya says he has a plan to deal with it.
?People are going to be very surprised of how I?ll be able to match his speed,? he said, ?because fighters like this really take me to a whole new level, especially when they?re that fast. So, it?s going to be interesting to watch.
?The punch that hurts the most is the one that you can?t see and we know he?s fast. How fast is he at 154? Well that?s something that we?ll see on May 5. But, I?m sure there?s going to be many times where I?m going to lure him into my trap so to speak.?
34 year-old De La Hoya says he is not concerned that Floyd Mayweather Sr is now helping his son, after having trained him so successfully for many years.
?I don?t think it?s going to make a difference,? he said. ?Obviously, I know Mayweather Senior is telling him, ?look out for this?, and ?look out for that? and ?Oscar is vulnerable here and there?. We?re ready for all of that, obviously. We?re sticking to our game plan and we?re sticking to what we can do best and you know, studying Mayweather Jr. for so many days now, watching his videos and watching his fights, we have him down. It?s not going to be a fight where I have to change my strategies or change my whole game.?
