Lightweight titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko is targeting a fall return on HBO against old nemesis Orlando Salido in either October or November, promoter Bob Arum told RingTV.com on Wednesday.
?We?ve been talking to Salido?s people about the possibility of a rematch,? Arum said in a phone interview. ?I?d like to make the fight. It?s only going to be a question of money now.?
Lomachenko (6-1, 4 knockouts) won the WBO lightweight title against Roman Martinez on June 11 in a sensational fifth-round knockout, which he punctuated with a double back-flip in the ring.
Lomachenko has since vacated his WBO featherweight title, Arum said, allowing Oscar Valdez and Matias Rueda to contend for it on Saturday?s HBO PPV card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas headlined by Crawford-Postol, he said.
Salido won a rugged split decision against Lomachenko in March of 2014 in just Lomachenko?s second fight. He?s since fought five times, winning a pair of titles in separate weight divisions and appears better prepared for the rough stylings of Salido.
The 35-year-old Salido recently went to war with Francisco Vargas in June in the frontrunner for Fight of the Year so far. Despite Salido?s seemingly pluckier effort, the lightweight title fight ended in a draw.
