Reigning World Boxing Organization world junior flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes is ready to defend his title against former world champion Raul Garcia of Mexico when the two fighters clash in Pinoy Pride 36: A Legend in the Making at the La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City.
Equally determined to come out triumphant against his Mexican opponent is Bago City’s native ?King? Arthur Villanueva, who will defend his WBC International Super Flyweight belt against Juan ?El Penita? Jimenez.
And despite getting information only two weeks ago about his Mexican foe, Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo said boxing followers in Negros Occidental can expect a good fight from him on May 28.
Milendo was supposed to face Javier ?Cobra? Mendoza but was informed recently that his new opponent will be Mamimino Flores, also a Mexican.
The three fighters from ALA Gym are in Bacolod City in preparation for their May 28 showdown against their respective opponents from Mexico.
Nietes, undefeated for nearly 10 years now as a world champion, said he is not taking anything for granted.
?As a boxer my performance varies from one fight to another,? Nietes said in the dialect during a radio interview over RMN DYHB, yesterday.
He said he is not taking things for granted since Garcia is also a world champion. The Murcia-born world champion noticed that he and Garcia had similar boxing stye.
?Everything will depend on how he will deliver his punches. I can’t say that this fight will be easy or difficult but I had been preparing well and will do my best,? Nietes said.
Villanueva, on the other hand, is confident of his chances against Jimenez. He said he was able to scout the Mexican and he is now familiar with the way he boxes.
