Retired boxing star Manny Pacquiao is now ranked 4-6 in the latest senatorial survey conducted by Pulse Asia for ABS-CBN from April 12-17 covering 4,000 respondents nationwide.
Pacquiao has consistently ranked in the Top 12 senatorial candidates list since he officially filed his candidacy late last year except in February when he was eased out of the Magic 12 due to his controversial statement on same-sex marriage which drew outrage from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans gender (LGBT) community. In the upcoming May 9 national elections, only 12 of the about 50 senatorial candidates with the highest votes will be chosen to replace the 12 senators whose terms of office have expired.
Pulse Asia Survey April 12-17, 2016 Pulse-ABS-CBN via GMA News As shown in the table above, Pacquiao is now ranked 4-6 along with independent senatorial candidates Panfilo Lacson and Migz Zubiri. Topping the list of winning candidates in the latest survey are incumbent senators Tito Sotto and Frank Drilon followed by former senator Kiko Pangilinan. Others in the winning circle are Risa Hontiveros, Sergio Osmena, Joel Villanueva, Ralph Recto, Dick Gordon and Leila de Lima. Pacquiao’s improved ranking comes after he won over Timothy Bradley by a unanimous decision in their trilogy fight last April 9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao is expected to improve his ranking before the end of the campaign period as he has started to join campaign sorties of his party. Pacquiao’s training for the Bradley fight prevented him from campaigning in the early stages of the campaign period. After the fight, Pacquiao said he has decided to retire from boxing to spend more time with his family and to pursue a career in politics.
