FANS NEED ANSWER POLL AT END OF ARTICLE
San Francisco, CA- When “Ring Talk” wrote the executives at HBO, mainly Sports VP Kery Davis, as well as Sports CEO Ross Greenburg, we asked them one question? “Why would you use a referee (Laurence Cole) that is suspended or banned here in the United States on an HBO broadcast from Denmark? Here is Mr. Greenburg’s lame response (and I told him so) for the 20 million Americans or more that are HBO viewers.
“WE (HBO) ARE USING A BANNED AMERICAN REFEREE!”
Here’s the message Mr. Greenburg sent us from his Blackberry Monday afternoon. “Commissions and Promoters deal with referee issues. We are broadcasters and we cover fights like writers do. We will be sure to use this important information in our telecast.”
WILL ROSS “REALIZE” GRIPE OR JUST IGNORE YOU?
The following is a list of questions that we sent Mr. Greenburg yesterday. I hope that he sees that the fans don’t want Cole working the Golden Gloves, let alone a major championship fight!
QUESTIONS FOR HBO BOSS “SHARP & POINTED”
1. In light of what you know now, why is a suspended referee appearing on HBO?
2. Of all of the referees in the world, why, after Laurence Cole erred so egregiously, and on HBO to boot, why are you Mr. Greenburg willing to let this go and allow him to appear while still suspended in the United States on HBO?
3. Do you as HBO Sports CEO, Mr. Greenburg, do you not face an etthical problem here, or at least a moral responsibility to the fans to make the sure the best (fairest) officials work HBO fights?
4. If Laurence Cole was your driver and he was popped for DUI, would you be using him in Denmark sans a Drivers License? NO, so why here? This makes the squares think that HBO is crooked, or that it has hopped in bed with the Texas Commission head Dick Cole, the banished referee’s father, and the WBC, the World of Bunco & Chicanery.
5. Inactions like this makes people see you Mr. Greenburg as part of the MAJOR problems in boxing, not the solution, nor the leading broadcaster. Don’t you feel this is an issue that should be addressed BEFORE Cole refs and not afterwards or during the fight?
6. Mr. Greenburg, you are a big baseball fan. Here’s the question, if an umpire did what Laurence did, I’m sure MLB baseball, another network, or you as a fan wouldn’t want him right back. So baseball deserves honesty and integrity, but NOT officials working in boxing matches on Home Box Office?
8. HBO wouldn’t hire former Boxing Writers head (embezzler) Chris “Toot-Toot” Thorne as an accountant. Nor would someone not expect the Boston Globe’s (Boxing Writers Assn. VP) Ron Borgess NOT to steal or “plagiarize” other writers, this one included. By the way, Borgess is another HBO sub contractor currently under “suspension” for what else, plagiarism. With that being fact, maybe the answer as to why Cole is he being rewarded with a big “money” gig on HBO is moot seeing you employ a “thief of print” in Mr. Borgess. So why are both of these men being rewarded with HBO gigs?
