Andre Ward had no trouble making weight on Friday ahead of his light heavyweight debut on Saturday against Sullivan Barrera at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on HBO (9:45 p.m. ET).
Now, it?s time to see if Ward (28-0, 15 knockouts), who is from Oakland, can transition seamlessly to a heavier division as a prelude to facing light heavyweight destroyer Sergey Kovalev later this year.
Ward, a former super middleweight kingpin, tipped the scales at 174.4 pounds while Barrera, who has campaigned at hight heavyweight or heavier his entire career, weighed 174.4 pounds.
In the co-feature, undefeated rising featherweight prospect Joseph Diaz Jr. (19-0, 11 KOs) weighed 125.8 pounds while his opponent, Jayson Velez (23-1-1, 16 KOs) was at 125.6. After calling out the champions of the talented featherweight division, Diaz is hoping to have a breakout performance on Saturday.
