It was another important weekend with minimal movement in the RING Ratings.
The big fight was Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan, which ended in the sixth round with Khan on his back. The result didn?t change anything in the ratings, though.
Alvarez retained his RING middleweight championship and his No. 7 pound-for-pound position. We didn?t feel he should rise on the latter list after winning a fight in which he was heavily favored. Khan also retained his No. 2 rating among welterweights. We considered dropping him a notch or two but decided he shouldn?t be punished for falling short in an extremely tough challenge.
There was one change in the welterweight division. Dmitry Mikhaylenko (No. 9 last week) was dropped from the ratings after he was upset by unrated Charles Manyuchi on Friday in Russia. Frankie Gomez entered at No. 10 after Gomez shut out Mauricio Herrera (No. 8 junior welterweight last week) on the Canelo-Khan card.
In other divisions:
HEAVYWEIGHT
Kubrat Pulev (No. 4 last week) retained his position after outpointing unrated Dereck Chisora on Saturday in Hamburg, Germany.
We considered moving Luis Ortiz (No. 5 last week) ahead of Pulev based on recent performances but decided that Pulev shouldn?t be demoted after a solid victory.
JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT
Herrera was dropped from the ratings based on his loss to Gomez and the fact he?s 2-3 in his last five fights. He was replaced by unbeaten Regis Prograis, a talented boxer-puncher out of Houston.
LIGHTWEIGHT
Anthony Crolla (No. 4 last week) stopped unrated Ismael Barroso on Saturday in Manchester, England, his third consecutive victory over a strong opponent. He fought to a disputed draw with Darleys Perez and knocked him out in their rematch. Thus, Crolla and Terry Flanagan (No. 3 last week) switch places.
JUNIOR BANTAMWEIGHT
Naoya Inoue (No. 1 last week) retained his position after outpointing unrated David Carmona on Sunday in Tokyo.
JUNIOR FLYWEIGHT
Akira Yaegashi (No. 4 last week) barely retained his position after defeating unrated Martin Tecuapetla on Sunday in Tokyo.
