FIGHTING as an underdog all of his life and in a stable that consists of mostly underdogs, newcomer Vicente Ejercito relishes his role and hopes to score an upset against highly-regarded former amateur standout Esneth Domingo this Saturday night in the curtain-raiser of Pinoy Pride 35 – ?Stars of the Future? at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
?I’m going to give everybody a great show,? said the 23-year-old Ejercito.
Ejercito, a member of Mike Boxing/Team Joeric, made his pro debut last year and was stopped by Jerwin Salicinas in just two rounds in Maasin City in a fight that he took with just two days notice.
Ejercito’s coach Edcel Mike Tu?acao assured that this time it’ll be different, because his ward has trained really hard.
?Now he has trained longer. He has prepared for this for two months,? said the former ?Idol? contestant-turned-turned trainer. ?Whoever lands first will win this.?
Ejercito and Domingo will be in a four-rounder that will open the boxing show that features a World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental super bantamweight title fight between Albert Pagara and Nicaraguan Yesner Talavera in the main event.
Though he isn’t a decorated amateur like Domingo, Ejercito has shown signs of promise as an amateur. He once fought now-rising prospect Mark Magsayo in his first amateur fight and went the distance, just losing on points.
Boxing and MMA enthusiast Joeric Calisang, who takes care of the fighters at Mike Boxing/Team Joeric financially, has seen some promise in Ejercito.
?I expect a knockout. Since I took over them, I really want them to go for the knockout,? he said. ?I”m confident because I have seen him in practice. I really believe in him.?
Domingo, a two-time Palarong Pambansa gold medalist, made his pro debut last year and scored an easy first round technical knockout of Thomas Rebusit.
