The unbeaten duo of Albert Pagara and Mark Magsayo will have their hands full as they get ready to repulse a brewing Latin invasion this Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.
Pagara faces Yasner Talavera of Nicaragua in a super-bantamweight encounter, while Magsayo meets Eduardo Montoya of Mexico in a featherweight clash in ALA Boxing?s 35th presentation of Pinoy Pride.
While it is Pagara who is headlining the slugfest, all eyes will be on Magsayo, who caught the fancy of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach when he trained at the Wild Card Boxing Club late last year.
Magsayo (12-0 with ten KOs) will try to add Montoya (17-4-1 with 13 KOs) to his growing list of Mexican victims after victories over Rafael Reyes and Yardley Suarez.
Pagara (25-0 with 18 KOs) also has to contend with a livewire foe in Talavera (15-3-1 with four KOs) as he bolsters his chance of getting a shot at the world title.
Pagara and Magsayo have to win big this weekend as their future depends on their performances as Michael Aldeguer is lining up major bouts in the US in the coming months.
Aldeguer is fresh from finalizing deals for ALA Boxing?s return to California with promotions slated on July 9 in San Mateo and Sept. 24 in Carson.
?It is important that they Pagara and Magsayo win this weekend,? said Aldeguer, whose initial foray into the US fight scene was a card he staged at the StubHub Center in Carson last October starring Donnie Nietes.
Aldeguer said that Nietes has been eyed to return to Carson in September to face bitter rival Moises Fuentes of Mexico.
The Nietes-Fuentes show will have Zanfer Promotions getting involved as well, noted Aldeguer.
